Executive Summary: Homo Deus is the sequal to Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari and is a projection of the many divergent paths that humanity may take in the near future.

Unlike most books which aim to predict the future, Homo Deus does not make any concrete forecasts but rather looks at current trends extropolates those ideas to their logical end. This is in some ways more useful than making clear predictions about the future as its easier to

  • ‘Dataism’ – Everyone is a data processing node.
  • Value is associated with the data processing ability of the nodes.
  • Nodes can increased value through two methods, increasing connections, or increasing the efficiency of processing (throughput)
  • In order to drive efficiency of a data processing node, we should minimise investment in non-productive activities and maximise investment in productive activities.
  • In a network, incremental benefits will mean that more data is passed through that node and thus increasing value of that node.
  • Therefore where a node can be replaced with a more efficient version at a low cost, the network will favour that replacement. Hence, jobs being displaced by technology.
